Glass Mastering Discs

The Phoenix Precision Polishing team has long been associated with the manufacture and development of Information Technology Glass Masters. From the earliest days of data storage to the audio CD revolution and keeping pace with the fast moving world of today’s DVD, Phoenix has been at the forefront, supplying glass mastering discs for all major glass mastering systems.

Phoenix use float glass specially manufactured by Pilkington for the demanding requirements of these products in order to reduce processing time and cost.

Supported by the broad capabilities at Phoenix Optical Technologies the glass is cut to tight tolerances for the ID/OD allowing a wide range of products to be made. CNC machining of the OD to micron tolerances gives precisely smoothed and chamfered edges to our discs. The fine surface 4¨finish is then produced by our high speed polishing processes.

Discs can be double or single bar coded or an alphanumeric code can be added for full traceability. A proprietary three stage process is used to clean the discs prior to inspection and quality is ensured by the Class 100 Clean room inspection of the final products.

Discs produced have thickness variations of 0.6mm to over 10mm and diameters from under 100mm to over 360mm can all be manufactured. Special operations include fitting of metal bosses, central holes, special etched marking including barcodes and chemical strengthening.

For thick masters (4mm+) Phoenix offer a re-polishing service that will return the disc to the original perfect condition.
